HGTV + Etsy Treasury Challenge Winner!

I am so happy & excited to announce that my "Deck the Halls with Vintage Flair" collection was chosen as one of the winners of the HGTV + Etsy "Deck the Halls Together Treasury Challenge 2011"!

My collection was inspired by Mrs. Lilien's "Retro Holiday Decor" on HGTV which featured beautiful photographs & ideas for decorating your home for the holidays with vintage style.

My "Deck the Halls" collection was featured on HGTV's blog "Our Favorite Christmas Treasury Lists"! This is such an incredible honor for me and my little shop Rue 78 Vintage! My sincerest thanks to the staff of Etsy and HGTV for liking my treasury and selecting it for their blog feature!

I would also like to give a special thanks to Tim at Handmadeology for featuring my collection & fellow HGTV Treasury winners on!

Happy Holidays!!

Featured - "Home Decor the Pink Way!"

Special thanks to Nadia and her fabulous shop of one-of-a-kind prints, gifts & home decor Nane Handmade for including my pair of Vintage British Royal Alma Electric Floral Mugs in her pretty collection "Home Decor the Pink Way!" Pink is my favorite color & I'm so happy to be a part of this lovely collection! :)

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy

Perhaps one of my favorite things about the holiday season is Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker". I first saw the George Balanchine version of the ballet performed by the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center with my mother. I was completely taken with the costumes, sets, music, and of course, the part where the Christmas tree rises from the stage in a dazzling display of hundreds of twinkling lights & candles.

The Land of Sweets portion of Clara's adventure is a feast for the senses. Clara and her prince are treated to a host of dances inspired by exotic spices & sugary confections. This wondrous and enchanting land is ruled by the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy. Her pas de deux with her Cavalier provides the spectacular grand finale of the ballet.

My collection Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy sparkles with plum, violet and lilac goodies inspired by the magic & majesty of the sugary fairy queen...Enjoy! xoxo

Featured- "Stop...You're Making Me Blush!"

Pink has always been my favorite color. It makes me feel instantly happy, pretty & girly. I adore all of its many hues- from the palest seashell to the boldest of fuchsias- especially in the gray wintry months, when spirits may be low and in need of a bit of lifting.

I'd like to thank Kelly and her fabulous shop Breezy Beach Cottage for including my Vintage Pink 1960's Ice Bucket in her gorgeous & girly collection of pink vintage fare titled "Stop...You're Making Me Blush!"

I'm So Thankful For Baby Sophia!

On the evening of October 13th, our phone rang. It was about 10pm, and my fella and I were cozied up on the couch, making our way through the night's episodes of "Parks and Recreation" and "The Office" that we had on the dvr. When my phone rings that late, I assume one of two things- it's either (a)my charming yet unpredictable cousin Frank calling to chat about his wanderlust or random adventures in his travels, or (b)it's bad news. Sadly, it was the latter.

We received a call from my mother explaining that my cousin Donnie's baby was born earlier that evening. This is impossible, I thought, she isn't due until after Christmas! I panicked and gave the phone to my fella, who quickly reassured me that the baby was alright. I barely slept that night, and struggled to wrap my head around what was happening. I didn't know what to expect, and feared the worst. But by the weekend, my fears slowly gave way to joy and excitement. The baby was stable and breathing on her own. She was very small- just under 2 lbs at birth- but she was long for a preemie, about 14 inches long, with very long fingers and legs (just like my cousin).

The pictures and videos began to pour in from Donnie and helped banish my fears as I got to look into my new cousin's eyes for the first time. I finally got to meet the baby the night before my own birthday. She was beautiful! And quite active- waving her hands, pulling on her blankets, smiling, and gripping my cousin's finger. She also has a full head of light brown hair and voiced her "dislike" for her preemie hat by trying to pull that off as well!

Sophia is almost 4 lbs now and growing stronger each day! She is off her oxygen and able to be held outside her incubator by my cousin & his wife. We are hoping our little miracle may be able to come home by Christmas, but even if she has to stay a while longer, we know we are truly blessed.

I am sitting at home sick, battling a stubborn cold made worse by asthma. I was thinking of Sophia, how far she's come in such short a time, and how much I look forward to seeing her new pictures each day. Our Etsy treasury challenge this week was "Give Thanks". We were asked to create a collection based on what we are grateful for this Thanksgiving. For me, it was instantly Sophia.

Enjoy my collection inspired by my family's newest (& toughest) little addition... plus here's a picture of the little lady who inspires me. We are thankful for Sophia!

Mmm...Peppermint Hot Chocolate!

It's that time of year again! That magical time when the sky begins to darken earlier and shop windows are dressed in their holiday finest. The first frosty days of late fall are filled with the promise of the winter fun that awaits- ice skating at the park, sled races, snowmen, the hope of snow on Christmas morning and, of course, hot chocolate!

This collection was inspired by favorite fall & winter indulgence- peppermint hot chocolate. I hope you enjoy these cozy & creative items in delicious shades of mint, wintergreen, cocoa and marshmallow as much as I do! Cheers!

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

I loved going to the Macy's parade as a kid- the smell of roasted chestnuts, Central Park's foliage, bundling up in warm knits, sipping hot chocolate & sitting on dad's shoulders to see the floats. A subway ride home meant dress shoes and turkey dinner!

Happy Birthday to Me! xoxoxo

One of the many things I love about Fall? Getting to blow out my birthday candles atop a yummy ice cream cake filled with chocolate Oreo crunchies & pink gel "Happy Birthday" written in cursive across a layer of whipped cream icing!

Here are some of my other favorite things from my Birthday Wish List...all bright & colorful selections in happy shades of pink, mustard, orange, chartreuse and blue- plucked straight from the Color Wheel!
